ATLANTA--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--i2Telecom International, Inc. ("i2Telecom®") (OTCBB: [ ITUI ]), a leading developer of award-winning patented and innovative high-quality mobile applications and services, today announced that it has retained one of the world's leading intellectual property law firms, Vinson & Elkins LLP ("V&E"), to investigate possible infringements of its recently-awarded patent for Dynamically Adapting Transmission Rate of Packets in Real-Time VoIP Communications to Available Bandwidth ("DMTR"), U.S. Patent #7,460,480. The Company believes this is the most valuable patent it has received, to date, exceeding in value the patent that i2Telecom sold for $6.5 million during the second quarter of 2008.

DMTR TECHNOLOGY IN USE WORLDWIDE

i2Telecom believes DMTR technology may be currently in use by a number of (1) original equipment manufacturers that deploy softphones, microgateway devices, gateways, routers and/or switches, and (2) carriers that rely upon the technology to improve transmission quality and eliminate degradation issues when sending voice packets over the Internet.

VALUABLE PATENT

"The DMTR technology patent is a foundational patent and a strategic component of our intellectual property portfolio," stated Paul Arena, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of i2Telecom International, Inc. "We believe the intrinsic value of this patent is substantially greater than the patent we were granted early in 2008 for our VoiceStick® technology and which we later sold for $6.5 million. We plan to aggressively pursue a licensing strategy or monetization of the patent, or a combination thereof."

"This is the second patent we have secured within the past year, and we believe a strategy of continuing to strengthen our intellectual property portfolio around our operations will create significant value for our shareholders in the future," said Mr. Arena.

"Our receipt of the DMTR patent further validates and enhances the credibility of the outstanding efforts of our internal engineering staff that developed the technology," continued Arena. "Our innovative team has, to date, produced two patents, acquired two patent licenses, and has 17 more patent applications pending."

"We have instructed the legal team at Vinson & Elkins to undertake immediate efforts to assess potential DMTR licensing opportunities, identify possible violations of our intellectual property rights involving DMTR technology and, if necessary, to initiate legal proceedings against suspected infringers," said Mr. Arena.

Leading the inquiry is David Weaver, a partner at Vinson & Elkins, which is a 750-lawyer international law firm. A former aerospace engineer at NASA, Mr. Weaver is the chair of V&E's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group.

"David is widely considered one of the nation's leading trial lawyers when it comes to the prosecution and defense of copyright and patent infringement issues," concluded Arena.

FIRST TO FILE PATENT ON DMTR TECHNOLOGY

i2Telecom was the first to file a patent application on DMTR several years ago. Additionally, i2Telecom is seeking patent protection in several other countries throughout the world.
