MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2009) - Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: [ CAVM ]), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless and security applications, today announced that SFR, the first alternative service provider in France, has selected the OCTEON CN50XX processor family for their next generation gigabit, triple-play home gateway, the "neufbox" by SFR. The OCTEON CN50XX Processor Family provides a high-performance, low-cost, low-power solution for next generation home gateways that need to support fiber speed WAN connections, Gigabit LAN connections with 802.11n multi-hundred Mbps wireless connections while supporting voice, video and data with quality of service (QoS) and strong security in a single processor based system. SFR is one of the most active Service Providers in the deployment of FTTH in France.

After evaluating several processors, SFR chose OCTEON for its high performance, extremely low power consumption and headroom for future applications and service deployments, that was required for the "neufbox."

"Cavium's dual-core OCTEON processors were built to meet and exceed the performance and power requirements of next-generation home networking gateways," said Andy Rava, VP of Sales at Cavium Networks. "We are excited to support SFR and their plans to offer high-performance WAN connectivity with rich multimedia delivery."

The OCTEON CN50XX family offers the choice of 1 or 2 custom 64-bit MIPS core devices, operating at 300-700MHz frequencies with multiple software and pin compatible processor options. Along with the best in class processor cores, the OCTEON CN50XX provides an integrated 128KB L2 cache, QoS, TCP, packet and security co-processing in hardware with a rich set of interfaces such as TDM/PCM, multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PCI, USB 2.0 and many others. With these advanced features, competitive price points and low power consumption the OCTEON CN50XX delivers an unparalleled solution for the rapidly growing high bandwidth broadband deployments in Europe, Japan and North America.
