SAN JOSE, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Veraz Networks, Inc ]., (NASDAQ:VRAZ) the leading provider of [ Multimedia Generation Network ] application, control, and bandwidth optimization products, today announced that Excel Telecommunications has reached one billion minutes of traffic per month using Veraz's [ ControlSwitch ]™. By replacing 18 Nortel TDM and Alcatel DECs switches with a distributed ControlSwitch, Excel was able to double its traffic load while reducing network management labor costs significantly.

The ControlSwitch's programmability enabled migration from Excel's 18-switch legacy network over a period of 18 months, and new traffic was carried on the Veraz infrastructure within twelve weeks, thereby speeding time to revenue for new services. In addition, the ControlSwitch's open application interfaces and service brokering capabilities enabled Excel to include services such as Local Number Portability and Teleblock.

"Rapid deployment of the ControlSwitch into a complex IN service infrastructure enabled us to quickly decommission and migrate traffic from the previous switches," said Richard Dinh, Senior Vice President of Operations of Excel Telecommunications. "We were also able to preserve investment in the applications from our legacy network and open up new IP-based service opportunities due to the ControlSwitch's ability to interface with mixed IP and legacy network architectures."

For operators with large legacy networks, the ControlSwitch is the ideal solution for migrating traffic from an existing legacy infrastructure while providing a cost-effective platform that scales to handle new traffic and services. The ControlSwitch's distributed architecture reduces OPEX costs by enabling central management of the entire softswitch simplifying end-to-end operations and support. Moreover, the VerazView Element Management System provides a single view of the entire network for simplified network management and optimized vendor management.

"Service providers need a fast, cost-effective migration strategy to accelerate the time to revenue from IP based services, and get out from under the sizable operating costs associated with antiquated switching networks," said Dawn Hogh, Vice President, Marketing and Switching Business of Veraz. "The ControlSwitch opens up new revenue sources for our customers while maximizing the return on existing infrastructure. It has been a great experience working with Excel and we look forward to supporting its efforts in the future."
