Ikanos Communications: Ikanos Appoints DSL Pioneer as Chief Technology Officer

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - September 14, 2009) - Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ IKAN ]), a leading provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, today announced that DSL technologist and pioneer Debajyoti "Debu" Pal has been appointed to the position of senior vice president and chief technology officer.

"Under Debu's leadership we expect to expand our technical initiatives and accelerate the development of semiconductor and software products that enable the delivery of broadband throughout the digital home."

A 27-year veteran in the communication and semiconductor industry, Pal has extensive experience identifying and developing new technologies and products, and a proven record of successfully bringing products from concept phase to product delivery. Prior to joining Ikanos, Pal spent over five years at Tallwood Venture Capital in a variety of roles, including CTO and executive-in-residence. His extensive communications experience includes founding Telicos Corporation, a developer of 10 Gigbit Ethernet over copper physical layer (PHY) technology, and Excess Bandwidth Corporation, an xDSL PHY chipset company that was acquired by Virata Corporation. At Virata, Pal was a vice president, responsible for xDSL PHY technology and IC product development. In addition, his communications industry experience includes key senior technical and technical management roles at ADSL and VDSL technology pioneer, Amati Communications Corporation (acquired by Texas Instruments), and senior technical positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he was involved in developing algorithms, architectures, ICs and systems for wire line as well as wireless communications. Pal started his carrier at Intel Corporation, where he was on the 80286-microprocessor design engineering team.

Pal holds seven U.S. patents, has published more than 30 technical papers, is a Fellow of the IEEE and has served as a consulting professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University over the last 12 years. He received a B.Tech. (Honors) degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India; a M.S.E.E. degree from Washington State University; and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
