Network Equipment Technologies: Network Equipment Technologies Successfully Completes Interoperability Testing With Polycom's K

("NET") (NASDAQ: [ NWK ]) announced today the completion of telephony equipment interoperability testing with Polycom, the global leader in telepresence, video, and voice communications solutions. NET's VX Series was successfully tested for use with Polycom's KIRK DECT (digital enhanced cordless telecommunications) systems, including the KIRK Wireless Server (KWS) 300 and KWS 6000 systems as well as the full lineup of KIRK wireless phones.

 -- The entry-level KWS300 is a SIP-based wireless telephony system that is ideal for smaller sized businesses. The KWS300 is a single-cell system that can support up to 12 handsets and four simultaneous calls. A total of six KIRK repeaters can be added to extend the coverage area. -- The KWS6000 is a SIP-based wireless telephony solution that can fulfill the wireless needs of up to more than 4,000 mobile employees. It is a multi-cell solution that is extremely scalable whether an end-user needs radio coverage of a large geographical area or to equip a large number of mobile employees with the flexibility of wireless telephony. It also provides strong investment protection and can grow with the end-user as the business grows and is therefore ideal for medium and up to very large sized businesses. 

The combined solution enables DECT handsets, such as Polycom's full portfolio of KIRK handsets, to act as SIP clients and register directly with the gateway instead of a SIP softswitch. Benefits of the combined solution include enhanced compatibility features, ease of operation, remote survivability, and a more cost effective solution for small enterprises and branch office locations. More specifically, Polycom and NET's interoperability offers the following benefits to enterprises and system integrators:

Interoperability. Together with back-to-back user agent and Any-to-Any protocol transcoding, the VX Series' SIP registrar ensures compatibility of all VoIP system elements -- from service provider equipment to the end user, including Polycom's KIRK wireless solutions.

Ease of Operation. With a VX Series, system integrator engineers need only set up one network device with SIP registrar, instead of setting up multiple devices like a gateway, an IP PBX, and a softswitch. NET's VX series reduces call routing complexity by centralizing call-routing within the gateway and with its ability to integrate with Active Directory/LDAP servers. With centralized call routing and SIP registrar functionality, system integrators and network administrators can cost effectively install, configure and operate enterprise VoIP systems.

Branch office survivability and service reliability. Through a local PSTN breakout connection, the VX Series provides branch office survivability for SIP phone users. With the help of IP DECT solutions registered in each branch office, inter-office calls can be completed over PSTN links if the IP network to headquarters or data center is lost. As a result, even when the IP network fails, branch offices equipped with Polycom's DECT systems can remain available.

Cost-effective voice solution for small enterprises. For a small enterprise, basic VoIP calls can be provided with KWS300 and KWS6000 IP DECT solutions registered on a VX Series' SIP registrar. Basic call processing provided by the VX for SIP phones registered on the gateway eliminates the need for purchasing and installing an expensive SIP server or an IP PBX.
