MIAMISBURG, Ohio--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Teradata Corporation ] (NYSE: TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on [ data warehousing ] and [ enterprise analytics ], has been rated the leader in the global data warehousing DBMS server market, based on the Gartner Server Evaluation Model (SEM) Toolkit 5 for Q408, just released. The evaluation model assesses data warehouse database management system (DBMS) server performance across multiple dimensions. The document is used as a reference by business and technology decision makers, and is considered valuable in developing data warehouse acquisition strategies.

Teradata regards its lead as significant for executives considering new investments in data warehousing, because server query performance and manageability are key criteria for companies seeking a competitive business edge. Teradata believes its leadership is a critical differentiator for the platform family. Innovative uses of analytical information, when driven by a Teradata system, have been shown to provide measurable competitive advantage.

"Whenever Teradata products are thoroughly and objectively compared to competing data warehouse platforms of all kinds across many vendors, as our servers were in this detailed evaluation, Teradata wins," said Randy Lea, vice president, products and service, Teradata. "We believe that this evaluation is important in view of the intensifying competition in the data warehousing market. And the continued leadership of Teradata is very telling. It indicates that Teradata's investments and innovation have continued to outpace our competition. Moreover, our scores this year in many sub-categories validate that Teradata is indeed continuing to innovate and move in a very exciting direction."

In October, Teradata announced a new [ Extreme Data Appliance ], adding it to the growing Teradata [ Purpose-Built Platform Family ], which includes the [ Teradata Data Mart Appliance ], the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance and the [ Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse ] platforms. With each member leveraging the powerful Teradata database, the Teradata platform family offers customers the ability to take advantage of the proven strength of Teradata for all their analytical needs throughout their enterprises. In November, the company announced [ Teradata Accelerate ], bundled business solution packages of comprehensive hardware, Teradata database, software and services. These bundled packages enable companies to easily and rapidly deploy and quickly realize business value from their data warehouse investment.

Lea applauded the Gartner SEM analysis. "Businesses across all industries are closely scrutinizing outrageous data warehouse platform vendor claims," Lea said. "Objective industry analyses such as the Gartner Server Evaluation Model contribute significantly to more informed decisions."
