Piedmont Healthcare Selects Eclipsys for Integrated Performance Improvement Solution
ATLANTA--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that Piedmont Healthcare, located at metro-Atlanta, has selected Eclipsys' integrated performance improvement solution, Sunrise EPSi™, which again has achieved the "Best in KLAS" award for the Decision Support-Business market segment in the Top 20: 2008 Software and Professional Services Best in KLAS report. Piedmont expects to vastly streamline its financial reporting and analysis processes for improved business performance and organizational efficiency by replacing disparate, competitive legacy technologies in its four hospitals.
With its Piedmont Hospital, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Mountainside Hospital (Jasper, Ga.), and Piedmont Newnan Hospital running on different patient accounting and decision support systems, Piedmont Healthcare management was restricted to retrospective monthly reporting that analysts had to produce for them.
"We were limited by old technology that was difficult to update and distribute information," said Scott Wolfe, Piedmont Healthcare's corporate director, Planning and Decision Support. "With our hospitals on multiple products and multiple databases, extra steps and workarounds were necessary to collect and aggregate financial information into actionable data for budgeting and other forms of decision support."
After a thorough search, Piedmont selected Eclipsys based on the strength of its solution's single, integrated database that can automate the data gathering required for true cost accounting and budgeting processes. With Sunrise EPSi, everyone from senior management to department managers will gain daily updates to determine more accurately the costs of providing patient care at an activity level in support of enhanced profitability analysis. Dashboard views give users easy access to review data either at a procedure code level, diagnosis related group (DRG) level, or by doctor or product line. Eclipsys' decision support solution also will enable Piedmont to determine consistent costing across its four facilities for comparative analysis. In addition, Piedmont will benefit from EPSi's contract management module as an effective tool to review forecasted net revenues against actual revenues.
"We considered several companies and determined that Eclipsys had the best decision support solutions in the market today that met our needs," said Mr. Wolfe. "We were impressed by its track record of activations and outcomes in complex delivery environments. It gave us confidence that they could handle a multi-site activation like ours and be a reliable partner ongoing."
The integrated database capability of Sunrise EPSi is what gives it a step up from traditional decision support tools, enabling hospitals to leverage data across all functional areas - budgeting/planning, cost accounting, patient and financial/clinical analysis. The single data model platform delivers comprehensive, enterprise-wide performance measurement. Eclipsys Sunrise EPSi clients typically realize actionable data within months of activation. Hospitals also have the option to choose from a variety of modules that automate flexible budgeting, cost accounting, financial modeling, enterprise-wide reporting, and more.
According to Jay Deady, Eclipsys executive vice president of Client Solutions, Piedmont Healthcare exemplifies why a significant number of hospitals are turning to Eclipsys for integrated performance improvement solutions to help them better manage the financial aspects of care.
"Like many of our clients seeking a replacement financial reporting or decision support solution, Piedmont Healthcare recognizes the advantages of our solution's innovative design," he said. "As a result of sharply increased margin pressures, it is vital for hospitals to have an effective means to manage payer contracts and fixed costs. We look forward to a smooth and efficient activation and to helping Piedmont Healthcare achieve the performance improvements and efficiencies they expect from our award-winning solution."
