DALLAS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) has signed a contract for the purchase of Tyler's VersaTrans® transportation management system, part of Tyler's broad range of software solutions for the K – 12 school market. The agreement includes software licenses, related professional services, maintenance, and support. The District has invested in Tyler's VersaTrans RP®, OnScreen®, TripTracker® and e-Link® products.

San Diego educates over 132,000 K – 12 students at 221 educational facilities, and employs approximately 15,800 people. It is the second largest district in California and the eighth largest urban district in the United States. SDUSD schedules and transports more than 21,000 students daily. The District, which has until now used information systems developed in-house, performed an extensive review process prior to choosing Tyler Technologies as its transportation system vendor.

"Transportation staff did on-site visits with other school districts, worked closely with technology committees from the Council of the Great City Schools and state and national transportation associations with the goal of finding off-the-shelf solutions which would not only improve the current process for students, but also meet the districts long-term District Wide Application (DWA) needs. After an extensive bid process involving Transportation, IT and Special Ed, Tyler was selected as the best solution for the district. The system is at the forefront of automated bus routing software and continues to be the growing choice of school districts nationwide," explained Alexandra Robinson, SDUSD's director of transportation services department.

"Tyler's VersaTrans solution provides standardized and optimized automatic routing, which may point out possible route efficiencies thus providing shorter and more efficient bus routing. Web interfaces provide district-wide access to data. In addition to routing, planning and field trip management, the features of this system allow for performing bell time studies and other ‘what if' scenarios quickly and accurately. The solution will also align with the current GPS and pre-trip inspection platforms already in place on the vehicles. Tyler's customer service department provides on-site implementation and project management, and customer service and technological assistance via a toll-free number and over the Internet. Over time, the District expects to see cost savings through optimized bell times and fuel reductions," Robinson added.

"Tyler's transportation management solution has earned a reputation as a leader in transportation management and we are proud that SDUSD has placed their trust in us. We're confident that the District can operate with greater efficiency and identify substantial cost savings as a result of implementation," stated Douglas Hamlin, president of Tyler's VersaTrans Solutions.

Tyler's solution offers superior bus routing and planning software to ease the scheduling of buses and mapping of routes. It provides real-time GPS fleet tracking and management, as well as Web-based field trip planning. The e-Link option enables a school district's transportation department to share school bus information online with parents. Additionally, Tyler's RP is certified with the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) and is scalable to meet the needs of districts large and small.
