Agilent Technologies Ships 10,000th 5975 Series GC/MS
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced it has delivered the 10,000th unit of its 5975 Series gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS). Introduced just over three years ago, the Agilent 5975 Series is well on its way to becoming the most popular GC/MS of all time.
"The only thing we can say to customers around the globe is a big, heartfelt ‘thank you,'" said Chris Toney, vice president and general manager, Agilent Mass Spectrometry Division. "Agilent's GC/MS has been the market leader for decades, so our challenge was to make the best even better. Customers are constantly seeking more productivity and higher performance, and our R&D team found innovative ways to deliver both. It's gratifying to see this kind of response, because there is no better indicator of customer satisfaction in this highly competitive market."
The GC/MS technique is widely used throughout the analytical measurement world in applications that include environmental analysis, food safety testing, pharmaceuticals, hydrocarbon processing and forensics. The Agilent 5975 Series contains many innovations to help labs analyze more samples per day and identify the components of complex mixtures, even at trace levels.
Agilent's predecessor, Hewlett Packard, entered the gas chromatography market in 1965, and the company has been a leader in GC and GC/MS continuously since then. Firsts include microprocessor control in 1973 and the first benchtop GC/MS system in 1975. In 1996, the HP Model 5973 introduced the gold-plated hyperbolic quartz quadrupole mass filter, a breakthrough in instrument stability and performance. Agilent spun off from Hewlett Packard in 1999, and the GC and GC/MS innovation continued in both hardware and software through the present.
