Gigenet Takes Managed Hosting Solutions to the Next Level with Internap s Flow Control Platform (FCP) for Low Latency Network
CHICAGO--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Internap Network Services Corporation [ (NASDAQ:INAP) ], a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, announced today its Flow Control Platform (FCP) is providing optimized network service for Gigenet, a leading managed dedicated hosting company located in Chicago, IL. The FCP is the foundation of a significant network upgrade that delivers increased capacity and reliability to Gigenet's customers.
Gigenet provides managed hosting services to small and medium businesses (SMB) as well as a number of the Fortune 500 and professional sports teams. The company was started in 2003 and has experienced triple-digit growth every year. This performance is attributed to a 100% network uptime service level agreement (SLA), an industry leading Web-based service portal, and high-performance managed server configurations based on dual, quad and 8-core servers that can include virtualization, security, and storage.
"Our customers tell us that network performance and reliability are key differentiators when evaluating managed hosting providers and with the Internap FCP, we are able to deliver on both fronts while lowering our costs," said Derek Raines, vice president at Gigenet. "FCP is like having a team of network engineers that are always on. We use FCP to manage bandwidth with multiple carriers, monitor and track packet loss, jitter, and latency, and proactively adjust network paths to deliver superior IP network connectivity."
Raines continued, "For example, we have an IP TV customer that does live streaming from sources in Korea. Before moving to Gigenet, they were experiencing service outages due to network latency. We installed the Internap FCP and now their service runs with 100% reliability."
The Internap FCP provides network performance management and monitoring across multiple Internet connections. Without an FCP, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is often the default routing mechanism. BGP routes data over statically defined connections, which frequently results in poor performance. The FCP's approach, leveraging Internap's leadership as an IP networking pioneer, proactively monitors network connections, analyzes performance and dynamically routes traffic for maximum performance and cost-effectiveness. The Internap FCP can improve performance 20-50 percent and ensure network diversity in the event of a carrier outage or brownout, thereby improving the application user experience.
"The Internap FCP appliance is a dream device for leading managed hosting providers like Gigenet," said Tim Sullivan, chief technology officer at Internap. "With FCP, Gigenet delivers superior, self-healing IP network connectivity as part of an integrated hosting solution that stands out in the marketplace and attracts new customers."
FCP is a key element of Gigenet's entire network infrastructure. It plays an important role in enhancing their networking, data center colocation, content delivery network (CDN) services, managed servers and storage, and security services.
