BigBand Networks, Inc: BigBand Expands Switched Digital Video Device Support
REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2008) - BigBand Networks, Inc. (
"SDV economics and performance are more important than ever," said Biren Sood, BigBand's vice president of marketing and business development. "In response, this release eases the underlying communication between devices and eliminates the need to worry about support for a specific protocol. The new features will simplify SDV infrastructure and help improve the time-to-market and overall operations of switched networks."
The latest product enhancement builds on BigBand's market leading SDV platform and commitment to open standards. It boasts dual, simultaneous client support for both Comcast and Time Warner Cable SDV protocols within a single service group, which is important in achieving a unified platform for all SDV configurations to simplify the implementation and operation of switched networks. In fact, BigBand's SDV solution has been integrated with more client environments than any other SDV solution, including Alticast, Macrovision Passport, Digeo's Moxi guide, Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. Time Warner Navigator, and Cisco SARA guide, making it easier for operators to migrate services.
BigBand SDV has been deployed, or is being deployed, by six of the top 10 cable operators in North America, passing over 17 million households. The company's SDV solution helps operators optimize the network spectrum needed for bandwidth-intensive services such as HDTV and long-tail content. BigBand's SDV solution provides a path to personalized television services by migrating seamlessly from multicast to ultimately individualized, unicast delivery.
