Guidance Software Achieves Common Criteria Certification for EnCase Enterprise
PASADENA, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Guidance Software Inc. (NASDAQ:GUID), the World Leader in Digital Investigations™, today announced that EnCase® Enterprise has achieved Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (Common Criteria) certification, an internationally-recognized standard (ISO/IEC 15408) for computer security. This makes EnCase Enterprise the only enterprise digital investigation solution to achieve Common Criteria certification.
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) carried out the evaluation in its licensed testing laboratory in accordance with the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme process, certifying EnCase Enterprise for Evaluation Assurance Level 2. Common Criteria certification allows agencies to implement EnCase Enterprise with full confidence that the software meets security standards set forth by the National Information Assurance Partnership, an initiative between the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Security Agency. To achieve certification, vendors must provide a set of security attributes for their product, which is then subjected to independent laboratory verification against rigorous international standards. The U.S. Department of Defense uses Common Criteria as a benchmark for identifying and procuring secure IT products.
"Guidance Software understands the increased focus on information technology security by governments around the world," said Guidance Software President and CEO Victor Limongelli. "As the only digital investigation software to achieve Common Criteria, government agencies can be confident that EnCase Enterprise is a highly-effective and stringently secure platform for protecting and defending information and information systems against threats and vulnerabilities."
EnCase Enterprise provides network-enabled search, identification, preservation, analysis, and reporting of digital evidence located on the desktops, laptops, and servers of government agencies, and is used for cyber security initiatives and policy violation investigations. The solution collects and preserves data in the EnCase Evidence File format, which is the only digital evidence container that has withstood numerous legal challenges and been validated in courts worldwide.
SAIC used the Common Methodology for Information Technology Security Evaluation, Version 2.3 to conduct the evaluation. A validation team on behalf of the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) monitored the evaluation carried out by SAIC, which was completed in June 2008. Guidance Software's [ Common Criteria Certificate ]can be found on the CCEVS website.
