LENEXA, KS--(Marketwire - December 3, 2008) - Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ MEDW ]), a provider of ClosedLoop™ software for blood and medication management, announced today that the [ Provincial Government of the Western Cape ] (PGWC) will implement the new Enterprise Edition of the JAC Pharmacy Management system in care facilities across the region. JAC provides medication management solutions internationally for Mediware and has approximately 200 hospital customers in the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa.

The PGWC agreement defines a rollout program to support as many as 40 public sector hospitals in the region, in addition to more than a dozen community clinics. Fully implemented, the system will service about 10% of the country's total population. This integrated approach will provide a major advancement of PGWC's ability to monitor, control and audit medicines usage on a regional basis.

The agreement covers the immediate upgrade of three main academic hospitals in the Cape Town metropolitan area to a single JAC Enterprise Edition pharmacy management system. The new Enterprise Edition enables customers such as PGWC to operate multiple facilities on a single architectural model that shares common high level data (e.g. patient and drug databases) while still allowing separate tailoring at the individual site level (e.g. formulary control). The high level unification of the system also allows for reports to be generated from the site level right up to the regional level.

"Our expansion in South Africa is a significant development and we are proud of the team for getting this finalized," said Kelly Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "This substantially increases our customer base in the region and is clearly a vote of confidence for our new enterprise-wide capabilities."
