A team from BITS Pilani Hyderabad has developed a groundbreaking device that can detect pesticide residues in food within 30 seconds. This portable, battery-operated device uses a paper-based sensor and a smartphone app to analyze food samples for harmful pesticides. The technology, which has been patented, aims to provide a quick and cost-effective solution for ensuring food safety, particularly in regions where pesticide use is high. The device has shown promising results in detecting pesticides like organophosphates and carbamates, which are commonly used in agriculture. The team is now working on commercializing the product to make it accessible to farmers, food safety inspectors, and consumers, potentially revolutionizing food safety standards in India.
