Prahlad Iyengar, an Indian-origin PhD student at MIT, was suspended for a semester due to his involvement in a protest against the university's investments in companies linked to Israel's military actions in Gaza. The protest, which took place on November 9, involved Iyengar and other students blocking access to a parking garage, leading to his suspension for violating MIT's policies on campus disruptions. Iyengar, who has been at MIT since 2017, is known for his research in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering, focusing on nuclear fusion. His suspension has sparked discussions on free speech and the right to protest on campus, with some students and faculty questioning the university's decision. Iyengar has expressed his commitment to continue advocating for peace and justice, despite the disciplinary action taken against him.
