ZTE and RadiSys Close Collaboration Yields Color Ring Back Tone Revenues for Telecom Service Providers
SHENZHEN, China & HILLSBORO, Ore.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--ZTE Corporation ("ZTE"), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, and [ RadiSys® Corporation ](NASDAQ: RSYS), the leading independent provider of open, standards-based media server platforms and advanced embedded solutions, today announced that their collaborative program has produced an integrated solution for color ring back tones that is already deployed and generating revenues for leading service providers in China. Integrating RadiSys Convedia media servers with ZTE's Unified Service Platform has created a versatile infrastructure for VoIP, video, and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) applications. The two companies are already jointly developing additional service capabilities.
Color Ring Back Tone (CRBT) is a network-based service that plays a fragment of music, advertisement, or message predefined by the called party. When a caller makes a phone call to a called party with CRBT service, rather than hearing a generic ringing tone, the caller hears the personalized audio clip. CRBT services are similar to the popularity and appeal of today's downloadable ringtones for mobile devices; however, an important difference is that CRBT is delivered as a network-based service. As a result, ZTE's CRBT solution enables both mobile and wireline service providers to capture recurring high-margin revenues, which are potentially even more lucrative than one-time revenues from selling a downloadable ringtone.
"Color Ring Back Tone service rollouts, which achieved early success in Asia, are expanding rapidly around the world because of strong subscriber demand for personalized telecom services," explained Zhou Fu Xing, Color Ring Back Tone Product Manager at ZTE. "This means that, with our CRBT offering, our service providers can generate new revenue streams from their installed subscriber base. ZTE's selection and integration of RadiSys Convedia media servers to deliver real-time CRBT audio content streaming has been an important contributor to our CRBT deployment success."
ZTE's ZXUP10 Unified Service Platform is a complete next-generation Service Delivery Platform (SDP) for IP-based multimedia service networks. Using an open standards interface based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Media Server Markup Language (MSML), ZTE's application servers control the extensive audio and video media processing features of the RadiSys Convedia media servers to support a broad range of IP communication services using a single, unified service delivery infrastructure.
"Our close collaboration with ZTE has been mutually beneficial at many levels," explained Charles Wong, General Manager for RadiSys in the Asia Pacific Region. "First, the selection and integration of RadiSys Convedia media servers enabled ZTE's team to accelerate development of its versatile, flexible service delivery platform. Second," Wong continued, "now that ZTE's CRBT solution has been completed and deployed, our audio and video media processing capabilities can be re-used and leveraged across multiple enhanced services," said Wong. "This collaborative program has been so successful that we're already working together on integrating new services including video color ring back tones. And, finally," Wong stated, "our ongoing collaborative program has resulted in growing business success for RadiSys, ZTE, and ZTE's service provider customers."
