Verizon Communications announced that its third-quarter profit more than doubled as the carrier's growth in contract wireless subscribers outpaced rivals. In its wireless segment, Verizon kept adding more high-paying subscribers than rival AT&T Inc. But similar to AT&T, it was hurt by the delayed launch of the new iPhone model, and missed analyst expectations for the number of new subscribers on contract-based plans. Presently Verizon pays an annual dividend of $2.00 per share for a yield of around 5.4 percent.
Presently Windstream pays an annual dividend of one dollar per share for a hefty yield of approximately 8.2 percent. Windstream said Monday that it is planning a private offering of $500 million of senior notes that will mature in 2022. Windstream plans to use the net proceeds to redeem $201.5 million of its outstanding 8.625 percent senior notes due in 2016 and to repay borrowings under its revolving credit facility.
