Thousands of enterprises already use Riverbed WAN optimization solutions to accelerate applications and to save bandwidth -- and many of them have also deployed the solutions to enable faster data protection by reducing their recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO). In addition to accelerating DR operations, Riverbed WAN optimization solutions enable organizations of all sizes to overcome a wide range of IT infrastructure performance bottlenecks, including poor application performance, slow database backups and insufficient bandwidth at remote sites.
[ Riverbed Steelhead appliances ] are qualified to work with EMC SRDF®/A (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility/Asynchronous) for both DMX and V-Max. By removing huge amounts of repetitive data from the WAN during SRDF/A operations, Steelhead appliances allow companies to accelerate DR processes while reducing overall IT costs. SRDF is EMC's business continuity solution that provides a host-independent, mirrored data storage solution for duplicating production site data to one or more physically separated Symmetrix enterprise storage systems.

Riverbed is part of the EMC Select Program, which enables EMC to resell several Steelhead appliances. These solutions are specifically tuned to optimize data center-to-data center traffic. Like all Steelhead appliances, those offered for sale by EMC are powered by the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS®), which was qualified by EMC E-Labs in 2009. EMC E-Lab™ qualification means that joint customers can deploy Riverbed WAN optimization solutions into their largest data centers with confidence. Riverbed Steelhead appliances have also obtained EMC E-Lab qualification for EMC MirrorView™/A, EMC Celerra® Replicator and EMC SAN Copy™.
