PureSpectrum, Inc. : PureSpectrum, Inc. Replacing and Retrofitting Lighting at Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum
SAVANNAH, GA--(Marketwire - May 26, 2009) - PureSpectrum, Inc. (
The museum chronicles the civil rights struggle of the African American community in Savannah and was recently designated the official Georgia historical civil rights museum by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. Thousands of people visit the museum each year to view the historic photographic and interactive exhibits, including a fiber-optic map of eighty-seven significant civil rights sites and events.
PureSpectrum has agreed to donate and install PureSpectrum's dimmable Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) and retrofit all of the museum's linear fluorescent lighting fixtures with PureSpectrum's innovative dimmable electronic ballasts. The $20,000 gift of energy efficient lighting will enable the museum to substantially reduce the building's energy usage and lower annual electricity costs by an estimated $7,000.
"We are excited and proud to be able to help one of Savannah's most prized institutions spend less money on electricity bills and consume less energy," said PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta. "Our mission is to encourage the use of energy efficient lighting products, and partnering with an organization as visible as the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum will enable us to continue introducing our breakthrough products and technologies to more people. At the same time, we are contributing to updating a historic building and making Savannah a greener city."
The museum will host a press conference at 1 p.m. on June 4 to discuss the benefits of the transition to energy efficient lighting and a reception on June 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate PureSpectrum's generous gift. The installation of dimmable CFLs will take place this summer, and the ballast retrofit for linear fluorescent fixtures will be performed later this year by Rushing Electric under PureSpectrum's supervision and direction.
By replacing existing incandescent bulbs with PureSpectrum's 20-watt CFLs throughout the building, the museum will realize a reduction of more than 75% in energy consumption. The museum will immediately realize about a 35% reduction in energy use by replacing antiquated, inefficient T12 linear fluorescent lamps with PureSpectrum's dimming enabled T8 ballast.
Additionally, because all of PureSpectrum's products are dimming enabled, the museum will be able to consider further upgrading its energy conservation plan through utilizing green lighting strategies such as daylight harvesting and occupancy sensors where applicable. Although there would be an additional cost to implement dimming systems, the installation of dimmers and timers and remote photocell sensors would result in substantially increased energy and cost savings.
"During these times of increasing energy costs and an urgent need to reduce energy usage, PureSpectrum is providing us with solutions that will drastically reduce energy costs and energy usage," said Billy Jamerson, M.D., chairman of the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum board of directors. "The museum has been searching for cost effective ways to implement an energy conservation strategy, and this donation from PureSpectrum is an answer to our prayers. We are very grateful that PureSpectrum has agreed to donate not only their state of the art lighting products but also has agreed to manage the installation being performed by Rushing Electric."
PureSpectrum launched its product line of dimmable CFLs in May at LightFair International in New York and is negotiating domestic and international distribution for all of its products. Additionally, PureSpectrum is discussing potential licensing agreements for its dimming ballast technology with lighting manufacturers.
