SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2009) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ ARUN ]), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that Universidad del Valle de México, S. C. (UVM) is deploying Aruba's adaptive wireless LANs across its 35 campuses throughout Mexico. UVM is the second largest private university in Mexico with 85,000 students and 7,000 faculty members. The university's student body has grown roughly 25% a year for each of the last three years, and by 2010 is expected to have more than 100,000 students and 40 campuses. The growth in students -- coupled with extensive use of digital library resources, on-line and collaborative learning, and team-building programs -- has increased the demand for campus-wide wireless access to the Internet and UVM's digital libraries. A patchwork legacy wireless network was difficult to manage, offered limited security, and could not handle growing traffic volume. Following a review of wireless options that would meet the university's security, performance, and cost objectives, Aruba and authorized partner IT21 S. A. de C. V. were selected to provide the new wireless network.

"We urgently needed a solution that would meet both the current and future needs of our large and growing student and faculty population, protect against unauthorized use, and reduce our maintenance, installation and management costs," said Dr. Eduardo Garcia, UVM's Academy CIO. "Aruba was selected because its integrated security, centralized management architecture, and quality of service met our service objectives. Equally important, the design minimized the staff required to manage, maintain, modify and upgrade the wireless infrastructure."

Aruba's centralized, policy-based management delivers a common user experience at both local and remote locations, and simplifies the expansion and updating of sites. An integrated ICSA-certified stateful firewall enforces policies for permanent and guest users alike, and offers unparalleled flexibility with respect to creating user groups. Guest access control offers a very high standard of security and can be easily managed by non-technical clerical staff.

To deliver a best-in-class wireless experience, Aruba's patent-pending Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) software uses infrastructure-based controls that direct the behavior of Wi-Fi clients so they operate to their fullest potential. Acting on their own, Wi-Fi clients do not always work cooperatively with other clients, or select the optimal band, channel, and access point. These issues are exacerbated in settings with densely packed users such as university lecture halls and libraries. Using a variety of techniques to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, ARM ensures that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources, including airtime, to operate properly.

"The benefits of our new Aruba network were immediate -- excellent wireless coverage, robust network performance, easy-to-use management tools, and a host portal that allows us to deliver services tailored to individual users," continued Garcia. "Unfettered collaboration and the free flow of ideas drive innovation and foster learning, and UVM is enabling such a learning environment by providing reliable, universal wireless access to our faculty and students. The Aruba platform has allowed us to develop a digital culture that will drive our 21st century learning model."
