J&K govt forms panel to re-look into reservation issue
- General administration department, in an order, informed that the committee will comprise health minister Sakina Itoo, forest minister Javed Ahmad Rana and science and technology minister Satish Sharm
The Jammu and Kashmir government has established a five-member committee to reassess the reservation policy for various communities, including Other Backward Classes (OBCs), following a directive from the Union Territory's High Court. This panel, led by the Principal Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, includes key figures such as the Administrative Secretaries of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as the Director of Social Welfare, Kashmir, and the Secretary of the Backward Classes Commission. The committee's formation comes in response to a court order to review the existing reservation percentages, which currently stand at 8% for Scheduled Castes, 10% for Scheduled Tribes, and 4% for OBCs, with an additional 10% for economically weaker sections. The panel is tasked with submitting a report within two months to address the discrepancies and ensure a fair representation of all communities in government jobs and educational institutions.
