The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India has successfully developed an indigenous version of paracetamol, as announced by Union Minister Jitendra Singh. This development marks a significant step towards reducing India's dependency on imported Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), particularly in light of global supply chain disruptions. The initiative was part of a broader push for self-reliance in pharmaceuticals, spurred by the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. The production of paracetamol domestically not only enhances national security in terms of healthcare but also supports the 'Make in India' campaign, aiming to boost local manufacturing and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.
