Rajagopala Chidambaram, a pivotal figure in India's nuclear science, passed away at the age of 88. Known as the "Father of Indian Nuclear Programme," Chidambaram was instrumental in the development of India's nuclear capabilities, including the 1974 Pokhran-I nuclear test and the 1998 Pokhran-II tests. He served as the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and was the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. His contributions extended beyond nuclear physics into materials science, earning him numerous accolades including the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award.
