MORRISVILLE, NC--(Marketwire - July 9, 2010) - [ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: [ TKLC ]), the session and mobile data management company, will participate in the [ 2010 Multi-Conference in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Control Engineering ]held July 12-14 in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Dorgham Sisalem, director of SIP signaling architecture at Tekelec, will present two papers dealing with aspects of SIP overload.

In his first paper, "A Theoretical Model of the Effects of Server Overload on the Performance of SIP," Sisalem examines SIP signaling performance in various server overload scenarios. Server overload can lead to problems such as a decrease in service quality or dropped calls. In the second paper, "VoIP Overload, a Sender's Burden," Sisalem discusses how to observe overload, as well as how to react to this issue in order to reduce the possibilities of lost calls. The paper presents a new approach called the Sender-based SIP Overload Control Algorithm (S-SOCA), which uses information delivered by its neighbors to estimate their overload status and adapts its transmission behavior based on this information.

Sisalem is responsible for the architecture of Tekelec's [ SIP Signaling Router ]. He co-founded iptelorg with Tekelec SIP expert and Assistant Vice President Jiri Kuthan in 2004. iptelorg, which Tekelec acquired in 2005, provided the voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) infrastructure for nearly all major German ISPs such as T-Online and Freenet. Sisalem received his Master of Science and Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin in 1995 and 2000, respectively.
