F5 Supports Mercy Corps and Team Baatar Hero in Mongol Rally

As part of the annual [ Mongol Rally ], kicking off July 24, Team Baatar Hero will drive from London, England to Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia, raising funds along the way for Mercy Corpsa™ work to reduce poverty and help Mongolians improve their lives.

Team Baatar Hero will provide blog posts and video updates via the web throughout its journey. To ensure it has reliable remote connectivity, the team will be using the BIG-IP® Edge Clienta" running on Windows 7. This means the travelers will not need to worry about having multiple devices to maintain connectivity as they drive through remote areas across Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, and other locations. They can use the same client, software, and configuration regardless of what type of network is available, whether via private WiFi, public WiFi, Ethernet, or other.
For much of its journey, the team will be connecting to the internet over the [ BGAN ] satellite network, using the BIG-IP Edge Client and Edge Gateway solutions to optimize and secure that connection. This technology solution helps maintain low data and connection costs even in extreme and remote locations. Team Baatar Heroa™s use of the BIG-IP Edge Client to manage and optimize sustained connectivity over the BGAN satellite network is a first for F5. The BIG-IP Edge Client will be directly supported by a BIG-IP Edge Gateway remote access solution at F5a™s headquarters in Seattle.
