BSQUARE Launches Handset Certification Platform for Mobile Network Operators

According to industry analyst firm IDC, smartphone shipments grew from 34 million in Q1 of 2009 to 51 million in Q1 of 2010. It forecasts that total worldwide shipments of converged mobile devices will reach 391.3 million units by 2013. This surge in new smartphones is straining the mobile industry's capacity to adequately test new devices coming to market. With the increasing complexity of these devices, more features, applications and services need to be tested prior to launch. Lack of sufficient testing, coupled with device complexity, can lead to quality issues and expensive problems that customers discover in the field.

The TestQuest HCP allows the MNO to develop, manage and publish portfolios of test cases to multiple OEMs and enables OEMs to pre-certify devices before they are submitted to the MNO's device certification centers. Optionally, BSQUARE can develop and maintain the test case portfolio for the MNO. The complete process from test development, distribution, testing and MNO certification is automated, secure and auditable.
Today, many MNOs publish detailed test regimens that number 5,000 or more individual test cases which handset vendors or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) run manually. Often times the process is repeated at the MNO device certification center to certify results, which is expensive and time consuming.
Throughout the process, MNOs using the TestQuest HCP have in-depth visibility to OEM testing through a custom dashboard which enables them to monitor progress and view test results based on individual handsets, services and equipment manufacturers.
