SAO PAULO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - August 24, 2009) - Proxim Wireless Corporation (OTCQX: [ PRXM ]) (PINKSHEETS: [ PRXM ]), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that it has taken actions to increase the resources available to support the growing demand in Brazil in conjunction with the introduction of Proxim's new high-capacity MIMO product line. Proxim's products have been deployed in applications including traffic light synchronization, IPTV, CCTV and mobile video surveillance, wireless backhaul, broadband wireless access (BWA) and VoIP and are ideal for Digital City projects throughout the country. With the introduction of the Tsunami™ QB-8100 point-to-point wireless backhaul and MP-8100 point-to-multipoint connectivity products in July, Proxim's products now provide up to eight times the capacity of WiMAX with non-line-of-sight (NLOS) functionality for even greater VoIP and video application support like HDTV.

"Proxim has had a strong presence providing broadband wireless solutions in Brazil for the last 10 years," said Geoffrey Smith, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Proxim Wireless. "With the large amount of Digital City projects taking place throughout Brazil, our new high-capacity Tsunami 8100 product lines provide an ideal solution for cost-effectively deploying broadband wireless service. Our increased resources, including feet on the street in Sao Paulo, will enable us to better serve this burgeoning market."

Proxim's Tsunami product lines support the 4.9GHz frequency, which has been deployed globally to backhaul CCTV cameras in public safety deployments. The products also support 2.4GHz and 5.15-5.85GHz frequency bands, which provides maximum flexibility when deploying solutions for public hotspots with Proxim's ORiNOCO® AP-4000MR family or last mile access with the Tsunami MP.11 5054 product family. The product portfolio also includes WiMAX products in the licensed 3.4-3.6GHz band as well as E1 interface radios which are used to replace wired El's and to backhaul cellular data.

Khrons, a long time Proxim partner based in Sao Paulo, has deployed networks using several hundreds of Proxim radios in the states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, both of which support Digital City initiatives. Proxim's MP.11 5054 radios have been used to provide cost effective internet access to schools, government and healthcare facilities, while the ORiNOCO AP-4000MR has been used to provide low cost internet access to underserved areas.

"Wireless is a much more cost effective alternative than running fiber, and in the case of the ORiNOCO AP-4000MR, it can provide ROI in less than 2 months," said Waldir Lourenco, Commercial Director at Khrons. "Furthermore, you can deploy wireless much faster because you do not have to dig up streets and wait for all the permits required to trench and complete a deployment."

Khrons sourced their product from WDC, a distributor of wireless and wired networking products based in Sao Paulo that has been carrying the Proxim product line for several years.

"WDC has been distributing Proxim products in Brazil for 7 years, and Proxim has a very good reputation in the industry," said Vanderlei Rigatieri Jr., Main Director at WDC. "The new high-capacity, non-line-of-sight MIMO products that cover every band from 4.9-5.9GHz are ideal for Digital City projects."

Proxim is also announcing a new round of technical training courses for partners and resellers, which will take place from August 24-26, 2009 in Sao Paulo.
