SEOUL, KOREA--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2009) - North American carriers can more easily and cost-effectively deliver end-user Internet services at up to 1Gbps after LG-Nortel, the joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel(1) (OTCBB:NRTLQ), signed a reseller agreement to distribute its WDM-PON Ethernet Access solutions across the continent through solutions provider Telamon.

A leading provider of telecommunications solutions to North American businesses, Telamon will distribute LG-Nortel's range of Ethernet Access solutions to its existing customer base and into new accounts, meeting rapidly growing demand for fiber-optic access solutions as carriers increasingly roll out fibre-to-the-business/home/basestation (FTTx) services to residential and business customers.

"Demand for FTTx services in North America is skyrocketing as customers expect more from their online lifestyles," said Gary L. Bloehs, president, Telamon. "LG-Nortel's powerful range of WDM-PON solutions will help our carrier customers meet those expectations with a fully-featured, cost-effective, end-to-end solution that enables high-volume delivery of ultra-fast Ethernet-class Internet services over fibre-optic networks."

"LG-Nortel's expertise in WDM-PON solutions provides an easier, faster, less expensive option for FTTx deployments than existing technologies," said Peter MacKinnon, chairman, LG-Nortel. "We welcome Telamon to our network of value-added partners, and look forward to engaging with their customers to facilitate the delivery of next-generation Internet services on a wide scale across North America. This partnership will enable us to provide innovative applications and services based on our foundational WDM-PON solution. Our combined expertise will deliver a broadband revolution with innovative optical infrastructure solutions that empower operators to address higher capacity wireless backhaul requirements and deliver cost-effective next-generation access solutions for residential and business customers."

The LG-Nortel portfolio is one of the industry's first to use a Wavelength Division Multiplexing - Passive Optical Networking (WDM-PON) architecture, which extends the cost and performance advantages of carrier-grade Ethernet to the "First Mile" and overcomes traffic jams caused by bandwidth-hungry applications such as HD video on demand. WDM-PON makes it possible to divide a single optical fiber into multiple wavelengths, each capable of carrying the same bandwidth that previously required an entire fiber - reducing the cost of new FTTx rollouts, speeding deployment time and shortening return on investment periods for carriers deploying FTTx.

As an LG-Nortel channel partner, Telamon will deliver LG-Nortel solutions including its [ Ethernet Access WDM-PON product line ], Transponder (SpeedLight16 and TurboLight16) customer premises equipment, and Ethernet Access Service Terminal splitter. Together, these solutions work with LG-Nortel's full range of optical service delivery and management tools to provide a complete FTTx solution for carriers.
