North Carolina A&T rising seniors Kani'ya Davis and Dasia Garner have been selected as the 2026 HBCU Science Journalism Fellows at MIT
Two students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Jordin Shelby from Xavier University of Louisiana and Gabrielle Whittiker from Howard University, have been selected for the prestigious MIT Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Visiting Scholars Program and the MIT MLK Visiting Professors Program, respectively. Shelby, a senior studying biochemistry, will engage in research at MIT's Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, focusing on developing new cancer treatments. Whittiker, a junior majoring in computer science, will work on a project at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), aiming to enhance educational technology. Both programs are designed to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by fostering diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, providing HBCU students and faculty with opportunities to collaborate with MIT's resources and community.
