Trump-appointed National Science Foundation leader resigns

  • Sethuraman Panchanathan has left the scientific research funding agency amid widespread layoffs and canceled grants.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has appointed four new members to its board, all of whom were appointed by former President Donald Trump. The new members are: Dr. Dorota A. Grejner-Brzezinska, a professor of geomatics engineering at Ohio State University; Dr. Frederick Kronz, a professor of philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin; Dr. Julia Phillips, a distinguished professor of materials science and engineering at the University of New Mexico; and Dr. Roger Wakimoto, a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles. The appointments were made in the final days of Trump's presidency, and the new members will serve six-year terms on the 24-member board.
