South African Public Relationship with Science (SAPRS) survey, a first of its kind for the country, has found that two-thirds (66%) of the public were "very" or "quite" interested in South African science and technology (S&T).

The article from SAnews.gov.za discusses a survey conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) which found that two-thirds of South Africans have a strong interest in science and technology. This interest spans across various demographics, with a particular enthusiasm noted among the youth. The survey highlighted that while there is significant interest, there are also concerns about the accessibility and understanding of science and technology, especially in rural areas. It pointed out the need for better science communication and education to bridge the gap between public interest and actual engagement with these fields. The findings suggest that enhancing science education and public engagement could foster greater innovation and development in South Africa.
