  • NASA's James Webb Space Telescope just solved a conundrum by proving a controversial finding made with the agency's Hubble Space Telescope more than 20 years ago. In 2003, Hubble provided evidence of a massive planet around a very old star,

The James Webb Space Telescope has provided new insights into the early universe by observing planet-forming disks around stars in the Lobster Nebula, which existed when the universe was just 3-5% of its current age. These observations indicate that the disks around young stars in this ancient cluster were capable of forming planets over a longer period than previously thought, challenging existing models of planet formation. The disks, observed through their emissions of neon and argon, suggest that the conditions for planet formation might have been more favorable or prolonged in the early universe. This finding implies that the process of planet formation could have been significantly different or extended in the early cosmos, potentially affecting our understanding of how and when planets, and possibly life, could have emerged.
