The 2024 Prime Minister's Science Prize winners were announced, recognizing outstanding contributions to New Zealand's science and innovation landscape. The Prime Minister's Science Prize was awarded to Professor Rod Dunbar and his team from the University of Auckland for their pioneering work in developing personalized cancer vaccines, which target specific mutations in a patient's tumor to enhance the immune system's ability to fight cancer. The MacDiarmid Emerging Scientist Prize went to Dr. Laura Revell from the University of Canterbury for her research on atmospheric chemistry and climate change, particularly focusing on the impact of human activities on the ozone layer. Additionally, the Prime Minister's Science Teacher Prize was awarded to Rachel Sheehan from Wellington's Wellington East Girls' College for her innovative approach to teaching science, inspiring the next generation of scientists. These awards highlight the significant impact of scientific research and education on New Zealand's future.
