DayStar Technologies: DayStar Technologies Appoints Howard Smith as VP of Finance

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - October 1, 2009) - DayStar Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ DSTI ]) ("DayStar"), a developer of solar photovoltaic products based on CIGS thin-film deposition technology, announced today that it has appointed Howard Smith as Vice President of Finance of Daystar Technologies.

Michael Matvieshen, CEO of DayStar, said, "Howard Smith brings tremendous credentials and experience in the high growth solar industry to DayStar. He has a demonstrated track record of success at building and growing businesses and will play a key role in developing and coordinating our capital strategies and efforts to develop, own and operate solar parks both in North America and Europe."

Prior to DayStar, Smith served as CFO for Borrego Solar, helping to re-engineer the business, and as CFO for GT Solar where he directed the company's European IPO initiative and managed a dual track liquidity effort which included a Nasdaq listing. He was also involved in the company's sale to a global private equity firm which affected significant shareholder gain of up to 20 times ROI. Howard also serves as an Executive Services Partner at Tatum LLC where he is a segment leader in the Clean Tech industry.

Smith brings significant experience implementing Sarbanes Oxley internal controls and business restructuring. Previous firms Smith has served as CFO include Aprisma Management Technologies, Inc. LLC, HoustonStreet.com and Copyright Clearance Center. He will earn a Master of Business Administration from Duke University in November 2009 and he holds a Master of Public Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government from the College of William and Mary.
