Mediware Information Systems: Virginia Blood Services Adopts Mediware's Donor Management Software to Streamline Eight Blood Cen
LENEXA, KS--(Marketwire - September 29, 2009) - [ Mediware Information Systems, Inc ]. (
Virginia Blood Services (VBS) is one of the nation's top producing independent blood centers and is highly regarded by hospital customers and communities throughout central Virginia where more than 70,000 donors volunteered blood. A key factor in the organization's purchase of new technology was the ability to better manage area donors and provide improved service for the more than 20 hospitals the organization serves.
"Our systems platform was unable to support our current operational needs," said Ric Thomas, MT, vice president of VBS' Donor and Technical Operations. "Following a review of all the blood center technology providers, we felt that Mediware's LifeTrak provided us the best long-term solution to meet our efficiency and safety goals. Of particular interest is Mediware's ability to help us recruit new donors, manage and communicate with existing donors, and streamline our interactions with our hospital customers."
VBS is in the process of launching a new donor recruitment program that will allow the organization to target blood donors based on specific patient and hospital needs. LifeTrak will help to streamline processes associated to the new program and ensure donors make the right type of donation, based on current needs.
"The addition of Virginia Blood Services is an important achievement for our team and our product suite," said Thomas Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "This contract continues our strong momentum gaining blood center customers and is evidence that our investment in the latest version of LifeTrak is on target. VBS is a very prestigious customer and we are thrilled with the trust they have put in our software and our service teams."
LifeTrak is a 510(k) cleared donor management system that manages donor eligibility, manufacturing and distribution for many of the largest blood suppliers, testing facilities, centralized transfusion services (CTS) and large hospital donor programs. In the spring of 2009, Mediware launched LifeTrak 4.0 to deliver increased flexibility through a web-based deployment. VBS is the third large blood center organization to adopt the latest version of LifeTrak.
[ Mediware ]'s Blood Center Technologies group provides blood centers the first integrated solution offering that spans from donor recruitment to distribution.
