SAN MATEO, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--SuccessFactors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFSF), the global leader in on-demand performance and talent management solutions, today announced that Salina Regional Health Center has selected SuccessFactors Professional Edition offering for small and mid-sized businesses to manage performance, goals, leadership development and align pay with performance. A community-owned, nonprofit hospital with two separate campuses, the healthcare center will use SuccessFactors across 100 members of its senior staff, with plans to expand across the center's entire 1250 employees.

Formed in 1995, Salina Regional Health Center is the sole provider of medical care for Saline County, Kansas, and the surrounding areas, providing a full array of inpatient, outpatient, emergency and diagnostic testing services. Prior to adopting SuccessFactors, the hospital executed performance management and HR services through a manually updated, computerized spreadsheet that lacked the necessary level of consistency in the development and measurability of goals and competency evaluations.

When their new CEO, Michael Terry, joined he recognized that while in theory their people performance processes were on the right track, in practice they lacked a system to execute on this vision. He sought to instill a higher level of accountability for patient satisfaction and quality, and a better way to link pay with actual performance. SuccessFactors worked with Salina Regional to develop a tailored HR solution to:

  • Better report on performance trends to direct performance outcomes, using goals to hold people accountable from the executive level, throughout the organization;
  • Drive pay-for-performance throughout the organization. They had developed a personalized system for merit increases, but different iterations had emerged over the years making it difficult to consistently and fairly allocate compensation;
  • Help managers provide constructive criticism and feedback, as giving "bad" reviews can be a difficult task.

"We feel SuccessFactors can make the performance evaluation system less onerous and daunting, serving as a tool that drives continuous conversations between employees and the managers," said David Moody, Ph.D., chief human resources officer at Salina Regional Health Center. "When your COO asks, ‘Why aren't we rolling this out to the whole hospital today?,' you know you've found something that not only helps employees, but is a worthy investment for the business as a whole."

"It is common for managers to be overwhelmed at the outset of the review process, so it's critical to not weigh them down by burdensome steps in spearheading the process," said Shelly Davenport, general manager for small business, SuccessFactors. "We provide a way to prioritize goal tracking, management, staff accountability and overall HR organizational initiatives so that companies can focus on the more important tasks at hand - in this case, providing the utmost level of patient care."

SuccessFactors' SMB offerings bring enterprise-class best practices to small and mid-size businesses. The Web-based, Software-as-a-Service technology model enables SMBs in all industries to cost-effectively implement the technology without the need for extensive IT support. By providing real-time, company-wide visibility into such critical performance data, companies are able to make better, more informed decisions about how to promote, recruit, compensate, reward and manage their employee base.
