India aims to launch its deep-sea mission and send its first citizen to space by late 2024 or 2026. A crewed submersible, Matsya 6000, will explore the seabed at 6,000 meters, while Gaganyaan's uncrewed mission is slated for early next year.

India is set to launch its ambitious Deep Ocean Mission by the end of 2024, as announced by Union Minister Jitendra Singh. This initiative aims to explore and harness the depths of the ocean for resources like minerals, energy, and fresh water, while also focusing on marine biodiversity conservation. The mission includes developing technologies for deep-sea mining, underwater vehicles, and an advanced ocean climate change advisory service. It also plans to establish a research base at a depth of 6,000 meters in the central Indian Ocean. The project, which has an estimated cost of Rs 4,077 crore, underscores India's commitment to sustainable ocean resource utilization and enhancing its blue economy.
