BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and CHICAGO,July 19, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Honoring the efforts of public safety officials that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and focus towards preventing domestic violence and raising awareness in their communities, Verizon Wireless, a corporate leader in domestic violence prevention, presented the Chicago Metropolitan chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) with a HopeLine® Champion Award for Law Enforcement Partnership today at NOBLE's awards luncheon in Lexington, Ky.

In addition to the award and in honor of the work of the Chicago Metropolitan chapter, Verizon Wireless, through HopeLinefrom Verizon, will present a donation of $10,000 to the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network. This donation will help the Network's mission to provide programs and resources for victims of domestic violence.

The Chicago Metropolitan chapter of NOBLE collected more than 1,000 wireless phones during the organization's fourth annual phone drive. Collectively, NOBLE chapters across the country donated more than 3,400 no-longer-used cell phones. All phones have been donated to HopeLine from Verizon and will be provided to participating domestic violence agencies and organizations nationwide for use by victims and survivors as they rebuild their lives.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and groups like NOBLE, since its launch in 2001, HopeLine has collected more than 8 million phones; awarded more than $10 million in cash grants to prevention and awareness programs nationwide; and donated more than 106,000 HopeLine phones with 319 million minutes of airtime to victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.
