Oracle Corporation: San Diego Unified School District Selects Oracle to Transform Internal Financial Controls and Processes

[ San Diego Unified School District ] (SDUSD), the second largest district in California, and eighth largest urban district in the United States, worked with the [ Oracle Insight Program ] to complete an assessment of its IT systems and infrastructure, which led the school district to select a series of Oracle® business intelligence and supply chain applications to meet its needs for increased financial controls and streamlined procurement processes.
Through Oracle Insight, SDUSD was able to work closely with Oracle business and IT strategy experts to identify its key objectives and understand how technology can help address its challenges. The Insight program analyzed SDUSD's existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, as well as its IT infrastructure and governance structure, and developed a pragmatic and thoughtful roadmap for implementation.
Based on Oracle Insight recommendations, SDUSD will implement [ Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition ] (OBIEE) and [ Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Applications ] to improve and restructure the district's internal financial controls and processes. Additionally, to streamline procurement processes, reduce administrative burdens and reduce overall spend, the district will implement [ Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise eSettlements ], [ PeopleSoft Enterprise Supplier Contract Management ] and [ PeopleSoft Enterprise eSupplier Connection ].
With OBIEE and Oracle BI Applications, the district hopes to establish a better ERP process, as well as improve visibility and access to key data (i.e. student metrics related to attendance and enrollment) for better management and executive level decision-making. Further, with its PeopleSoft Enterprise applications, the district plans to centralize procurement and add advanced procurement capabilities, ultimately reducing spending on goods and services, streamlining procure-to-pay processes and driving policy compliance.
A long-term Oracle customer, SDUSD already utilizes [ Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management ], including [ PeopleSoft Enterprise Payroll for North America ], to help ensure that the district's payroll is accurate, on time and processed efficiently for more than 15,000 employees. The district also uses [ PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management ] and [ PeopleSoft Enterprise Services Procurement ] applications to improve visibility into financial data and streamline the procurement of goods and services.
