  • Researchers analyzed nearly 300 million UK vehicle inspection records from 2005 to 2022, finding that the reliability of electric cars has improved rapidly.

A recent study has concluded that electric vehicles (EVs) are now as reliable and durable as their petrol and diesel counterparts, dispelling common myths about their longevity and maintenance needs. The research, which analyzed data from over 500,000 vehicles, found that EVs have fewer moving parts, leading to less wear and tear, and thus, potentially lower maintenance costs over time. This finding comes at a time when the automotive industry is pushing towards electrification to meet environmental targets, with the study suggesting that concerns over EV reliability should no longer be a barrier to their adoption. The study also highlighted that while initial repair costs for EVs might be higher due to specialized technology, the overall cost of ownership could be lower due to reduced fuel and maintenance expenses.
