  • NASA's Parker Solar Probe has successfully made the closest approach to the sun, the space agency confirmed Friday. Earlier this week, the spacecraft passed within a record-breaking 3.8 million miles (6 million kilometers) of the scorching star.

The Parker Solar Probe, launched by NASA, has successfully completed its 17th close approach to the Sun, coming within 4.51 million miles of the solar surface. This mission, aimed at studying the Sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, has provided invaluable data on solar wind, magnetic fields, and solar energetic particles. Despite the extreme conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, the probe's advanced heat shield has protected its instruments, allowing it to gather data that could help in understanding solar phenomena and improving space weather forecasts. The probe's next close encounter is scheduled for June 2024, where it will venture even closer to the Sun, continuing its mission to unravel the mysteries of our star.
