The IIT Climate Assessment Report has identified 11 districts in Bihar, Kerala, and Odisha as being at high risk for both floods and droughts, highlighting the vulnerability of these regions to climate change impacts. The report, which was discussed at the India Climate and Development Partners' Meet, points out that these districts face significant challenges due to their geographical and climatic conditions. Specifically, districts like Puri, Cuttack, and Kendrapara in Odisha, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Thrissur in Kerala, and Patna, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur in Bihar are particularly susceptible. The assessment underscores the need for integrated water management strategies, improved infrastructure, and community preparedness to mitigate the adverse effects of these extreme weather events. The report also calls for policy interventions to enhance resilience and adaptive capacity in these vulnerable areas.
