Munday joined Elster in 1981 and has led the North American electricity business for the past 11 years. He has been awarded more than 31 U.S. patents related to Smart Grid and metering technology. He was named technology executive of the year by the North Carolina Technology Association in 2010 and was a Platts Global Energy Awards finalist for Energy CEO of the Year in 2006.

In the newly created position of CTO, Munday will be responsible for driving research and development, and technology innovation efforts across the company.  He will take a primary role in assessing outside technology opportunities.

"I joined Elster as a design engineer and have spent much of my career in research and development.  I look forward to building on Elster's 175 year track record of introducing innovative technology which helps our customers establish vital connections with the communities they serve in this time of rapid industry change," Munday said.

"Mark is widely respected for his engineering innovation, which Elster's customers continue to see first-hand in the industry-leading products and solutions we consistently deliver to the market," said Simon Beresford-Wylie, chief executive officer of Elster.

"We are fortunate to have identified an exceptional leader, Edward Myszka, to lead the North American electricity business.  This allows us to augment our management team and free Mark to take full advantage of his differentiating technology skills to guide our product development, enhance our R&D efficiency and speed our assessment of outside technology opportunities," Beresford-Wylie added.

Myszka joins Elster with more than 28 years of advanced technology and business experience. He spent the past six years as a member of the senior executive team at Comverge, Inc., a demand response Smart Grid company. Prior to Comverge, he spent more than 17 years with Motorola, Inc., holding positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as head of its OEM energy systems group.

"Ed is a proven leader with an outstanding understanding of the dynamic North American Smart Grid market and we look forward to adding his leadership skills to Elster's executive team," Beresford-Wylie said.

"Elster continues to win considerable business with mid-tier and co-op utilities that comprise a significant and underserved market.  With its long history of innovation, Elster has also established an early leadership position for AMI-DA convergent solutions.  I look forward to further advancing this lead," Myszka said.

"I am excited to be joining the most innovative, customer-focused team in the Smart Grid space," Myszka added.

Both Munday and Myszka will report directly to Beresford-Wylie, and will serve on the company's group executive board.
