TeleCommunication Systems Supplies Advanced Navigation for QNX CAR 2 Application Platform
TCS Location-Based Services Deliver Easy-to-Use, Reliable Navigation
ANNAPOLIS, MD and LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - Jan 10, 2012) - 2012 International CES -- [ TeleCommunication Systems ], Inc. (TCS) (
"QNX is leading the industry with their QNX CAR 2 application platform, which offers the latest technology within a powerful and flexible framework for building connected automotive experiences," said Steve Petilli, senior vice president of TCS' navigation and telematics group. "TCS has been selected by QNX Software Systems to integrate its location applications into the platform and to provide advanced hybrid navigation capabilities for head unit and handset-to-head unit uses, fulfilling a demand in the telematics space."
The integration of TCS' telematics applications and services provides powerful, easy-to-use automotive-grade navigation for the QNX CAR 2 application platform. With TCS NAVBuilder® technology and APIs, customers using the platform can leverage the broad range of advanced features and enhanced content that TCS provides and create the next generation of automotive user experience. For example, users can send destination data from a mobile device directly to the navigation system, and then receive turn-by-turn, voice-guided directions to the location. While en route, alerts for traffic incidents or congestion will be delivered in real time. Users will be able to request alternate route or detour options to avoid delays, and 3D map displays will provide realistic visuals of the route. After parking the vehicle, the user can seamlessly complete their journey with pedestrian guidance on their mobile device.
"Increasingly, consumers want to enjoy the convenience of advanced location-based services in their vehicles, whether it's to find the nearest coffee shop or the service station with the lowest gas price," said Linda Campbell, director of strategic alliances, QNX Software Systems. "Leveraging TCS' NAVBuilder platform and best-of-breed location-based services, we are pleased to collaborate on enabling a connected experience that allows users to benefit from the latest navigation data and to enjoy points of interest updated in real time."
The QNX CAR 2 application platform integrates an array of technologies, including the QNX® Neutrino® real-time operating system, a re-skinnable user interface, a multimedia framework, an acoustic processing library for hands-free systems, and smartphone and tablet connectivity. New advancements in the platform include an auto-centric HTML5 framework and support for TCS hybrid navigation.
