SAN JOSE, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that, using Adobe® Digital Publishing Suite, leading publishers have created magazine applications that appear in the Apple Newsstand section of the Apple App Store and the Newsstand folder on the iPad. The announcement comes five weeks after Adobe announced that Adobe Digital Publishing Suite will include full support for iOS 5 Newsstand subscriptions. A sampling of publishers who have delivered apps enabled for iOS 5 Newsstand created with Digital Publishing Suite include National Geographic, Readera™s Digest andCond© Nast. Additional applications enabled for Newsstand and iOS 5 and built with Digital Publishing Suite are expected soon from Bonnier, Dennis Publishing, Newsweek, Rodale Inc., Smithsonian and Wenner Media.

"From the outset, tablets have been a game-changer for Cond© Nast in our mission to deliver award-winning, influential content across platforms"

aWe are seeing rapid adoption of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite among publishers that want to create exceptional, engaging apps enabled for Newsstand that reinvent the magazine experience while making digital content more easily discoverable and marketable,a said Todd Teresi, vice president and general manager, Media Solutions, Adobe. aAdobe technology is lowering the barriers to publishing digital editions of magazines and newspapers as well as enabling publishers to better showcase and merchandise digital content on iOS devices.a

Newsstand apps created with Adobe Creative Suite® CS5.5 software and Digital Publishing Suite that are approved by Apple are recognized and added to the iOS 5 Newsstand. As new issues become available they are automatically updated in Newsstand through Digital Publishing Suite support for background downloading. Digital Publishing Suite can also generate apps compatible with Androida" and BlackBerry® tablets, though Newsstand support is unique to iOS 5 devices.

With applications enabled for Newsstand and iOS 5 push notifications, subscribers are told when updated content in magazine or newspaper apps is available in their personalized newsstand. New content is downloaded in the background as it becomes available, eliminating long wait times for subscribers. Publishers can also present icon covers displayed on the Newsstand shelf and drive more proactive marketing and merchandising activities to capture new subscribers and increase ad and subscription revenues.
