ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - March 21, 2011) - 2011 International CTIA Wireless Show -- [ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: [ TKLC ]), the mobile broadband solutions company, has integrated its performance management and troubleshooting solution with its routing hub for next-generation network traffic. By integrating the [ Performance Intelligence Center ] (PIC) with its [ Diameter Signaling Router ] (DSR), Tekelec gives operators a cost-effective way to improve network performance and provide advanced screening capabilities across 3G and LTE subscribers, devices and core network equipment.

The resulting Diameter Intelligence Hub (DIH) provides network troubleshooting capabilities without the need for separate probes, reducing the number of network probes. The DIH collects and stores Diameter traffic for use in troubleshooting and data export activities. The system analyzes and initiates alarms for critical endpoints including the Mobility Management Entity (MME), Policy & Charging Rules Function (PCRF), Home Subscriber Server (HSS) and Online Charging System (OCS).

"Operators will require greater network intelligence visibility in next-gen networks compared to their 2G and 3G environments, but a traditional probed approach is unaffordable," said Brian Partridge, vice president of Yankee Group's Anywhere Network research group. "Tekelec's dual Diameter and performance management expertise gives operators a logical, innovative solution for scaling Diameter routing and traffic analysis."

Tekelec launched the DSR in October 2010 and was selected by MetroPCS, the first North American LTE network. The DSR provides a single connection point for all Diameter traffic, centralizing routing, signaling traffic management and load-balancing tasks and supporting the Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) functionality as defined in 3GPP. Use cases include the framework to manage in-network and out-of-network roaming (from 2G/3G to LTE or LTE-to-LTE), scaling any Diameter-based network, Diameter message mediation, and network defense against potential overloads or attacks of Diameter signaling messages. The Performance Intelligence Center converts live network traffic data into real-time and historical network intelligence and troubleshooting, and it is deployed to more than 150 service providers globally.

"With its role at the core of the Diameter network, the DSR provides an ideal vantage point to collect network traffic and subscriber usage data for troubleshooting and improved network performance," said Ron de Lange, executive vice president, global products and solutions of Tekelec. "The Diameter Intelligence Hub provides unprecedented Diameter intelligence with minimal footprint."
