

JDSU Releases 50 GHz WSS Products to Extend Switching Portfolio

The new products are based on the successful Mini 50 GHz WSS platform that provides network equipment manufacturers (NEM) and service providers additional solutions to optimize networks as consumers continue to use more bandwidth-intensive applications.

LPC 50 GHz -- 1x2 and 1x4 single-slot WSSs for either small-node or emerging edge and access applications, pushing re-configurability further to the edge of networks with a cost-and size-optimized solution.
Mini 50 GHz with Built-in Optical Power Monitor (OPM) -- an extension of the current Mini 50 GHz that offers NEMs a cost-effective, high-density integrated solution.
Nano 50 GHz -- a highly compact, standalone solution that lets NEMs create higher-density transport blades. Initially used in the JDSU Super Transport Blade, it can be integrated with all major optical components onto a single blade and let operators use dual WSSs on a single blade for next-generation route-and-select architectures.
JDSU WSS and remote optical add/drop modules (ROADM) products make it possible for operators to adjust and direct network capacity to effectively provide consumers and businesses with on-demand voice, video, and data services. Next-Generation Switching and the Self-Aware Network
As networks evolve, they will require multiple, integrated high-port-count (twin) and MxN WSSs, and the simultaneous use of both LCoS and MEMS technologies to achieve the flexibility, scalability, and performance required to support these applications. These technologies will support next-generation, Self-Aware Network features such as colorless, directionless, and contentionless capabilities, in addition to the transport requirements for 400 G such as flexible-spectrum WSSs, OPMs, and advanced Raman amplification.
The Self-Aware Network uses simplified and less-expensive upper layers through the added functionality of more robust, resilient, and reliable lower layers. This results in faster end-to-end service delivery that, for the operator, dramatically increases customer capture and reduces network churn.
