GENEVA, SWITZERLAND--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) -

Affordable touch screen platform supports Wi-Fi, EDGE and Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby

Geneva, February 14, 2011 - ST-Ericsson, a world leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, has unveiled a single-chip handset platform that will bring down the cost of entry multimedia, touch screen phones. Able to connect to both EDGE and Wi-Fi networks, the E4915 can also support two SIM-cards simultaneously, enabling consumers to make and receive calls over two different mobile networks.

With a very low bill of materials and extremely low power consumption, the E4915 is designed to make mobile multimedia services and Internet accessible to a broader range of people. Equipped with a powerful processor and interface with fast Dual Data Rate (DDR) memory, the platform can also support a large haptic touch screen, a 3 megapixel camera and a camcorder.

"Our new platform raises the bar for entry-level multimedia handsets, making an array of attractive features available at a very competitive price-point," said Thierry Tingaud, senior vice president, Entry Solutions and Connectivity division of ST-Ericsson. "In this platform, we have achieved a unique level of integration that will enable many more people to purchase a Dual-SIM Dual-Standby handset capable of delivering an exciting social networking and web browsing experience."

Set to be used in commercial handsets by the second half of 2011, the E4915 also supports dual microphones, enabling significant background noise reduction and Voice services over Adaptive Multi-user channels on One Slot (VAMOS), a 3GPP initiative to double the voice capacity of GSM networks and USIM allowing support of 3G SIM card for extended compatibility.

Notes to editors

The E4915 platform supports the following multimedia features:

· A haptic WQVGA LCD touch-screen with 16 million colors

· A 3 megapixel camera capable of one shot per second

· A QVGA video camcorder with H.264 playback

· HW graphics acceleration

· DSP audio codecs processing
