BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) - Mobile World Congress Hall 1 Stand1F44/1G49--[ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: [ TKLC ]), the broadband data management company, increased its global market share -- as measured by enabled subscribers -- for real-time connection [ number portability ] solutions to 48%, up from 35% [ two years ago ], according to research and consultancy firm Analysys Mason. The full findings are detailed in the Analysys Mason 2011 "[ Number Portability Research Note ]."

Tekelec achieved the gains primarily through emerging market successes, led by India. The company won nine of the 11 India mobile number portability bids it pursued: Bharti airtel Limited, Reliance Communications (RCOM), Tata Teleservices Limited, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), Aircel, Uninor, MTS India, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) and STel Ltd. In addition, Tekelec attained a 72% market share in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region, winning number portability customers in Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.

As of the end of 2010, Tekelec had 108 number portability customers in 38 countries, ranging from India and the United States to the Cayman Islands. The company's number portability wins include customers in countries scheduled to deploy number portability in 2011, such as Chile.

Analysys Mason noted that more than 70 countries have implemented number portability to date, with 10-20 more across Europe, Asia-Pacific, CALA and Africa expected to do so by 2012.

"Tekelec remains the lead provider of real-time connection number portability solutions, building on wins in developed European and North American markets to add dozens of customers across Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean," said Mark Main, senior analyst at Analysys Mason. "The company's broader subscriber data management portfolio also provides the foundation for service portability for connected devices other than phones."

Tekelec's number portability solutions support signaling system 7 (SS7), Electronic Numbering Mapping System ([ ENUM ]), and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) architectures, handling voice, short message service (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS) and pre-paid calls over LTE, IMS, GSM, CDMA, VoIP, cable and fixed line networks. When combined with Tekelec's [ Subscriber Data Management ] (SDM) products, the company provides next-generation service portability that enables subscribers to transfer data services for any number of connected devices, such as tablets, netbooks and picture frames.

"Number portability is an easily understood concept, but is complex to deploy across disparate network technologies, equipment and vendors," said Ron de Lange, executive vice president, global products and solutions of Tekelec. "Our leadership reflects our ability to make this a seamless and efficient service to subscribers regardless of their device, network technology, location or service."
