HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - November 19, 2009) - [ RCN Corporation ] (
This year, children at five New York City Title One schools and Central Middle School in Tuck's hometown of Coosa County, Alabama will participate in the program. They will receive a book and be invited to submit essays. Students from Middle School 203, Brooklyn Collegiate, Jackie Robinson Middle School and Eagle Academy authored the best essays and will attend this Sunday's Giants game where they will be honored on field at the end of the first quarter.
"We're building off of last year's momentum," says Tuck. "We're hoping to get out there and do even more this year to give underserved kids the opportunity to learn more. Books and information should be accessible to anyone and everyone. We're working to help make that happen."
Additionally, RCN-New York's three [ customer centers ] are collecting new books through December 31, when the books will be donated to First Book. Any RCN customer that donates three new books will receive $20 off their bill (one time only).
"RCN is committed to meeting the needs of the communities we serve," said Tony Ontiveros, RCN-New York's vice president & general manager. "We are proud to team up with Justin's R.U.S.H. for Literacy and First Book because it's partnerships like these that are instrumental in improving children's interest in reading."
Tuck recently kicked off Tuck's R.U.S.H. for Literacy Sack Challenge, in which he will donate $1,000 to R.U.S.H. for Literacy for every sack he records in the 2009/2010 NFL Season.

About Tuck's R.U.S.H. for Literacy
Lauran & Justin Tuck founded Tuck's R.U.S.H. for Literacy to encourage children to READ, UNDERSTAND, SUCCEED and HOPE. Started in 2008, Tuck's R.U.S.H. for Literacy has been committed to raising funds to donate books and other reading materials to support children in the New York City and Central Alabama communities. By supporting the communities that have supported them, the Tucks hope to encourage children to embrace literacy. To raise additional support for this initiative, Justin Tuck has also pledged $1,000 for every sack he records during each NFL season.
